Russell used to swim for his county when he was younger so he already had a head start on most other triathletes when he entered the sport in 2016, but he quickly found his feet on both the bike and run legs of the races as well.

Based in Abu Dhabi, he also has the luxury of warm weather training all year round, but it also means he has to race in it as well which can't be easy.

​

Half way through his first season in the sport, he was invited to join the Yas Cycles Race Team, which he has settled into fantastically.

​

Some of his most noticable results include:

• Khorf Fakan Super Sprint Series - 2nd Overall (2nd/2nd/3rd)

• Wade Adventure Super Sprint Triathlon, Al Ain - 2nd in AG

• 2XU Age Group Sprint Tri Series, Dubai - 10th Overall (12th/7th)

• 5 Star Aquathlon, Abu Dhabi - 7th in AG

• Cardiff Sprint Tri - 4th in AG

• Pencoed Sprint Tri - 5th Overall

His season has already started out in the 'sand pit' where he aims to continue to improve on his times, but he hopes to step up in distance and make is first outing at 70.3 Dubai, followed by ITU Abu Dhabi and 70.3 Muskoka
